August 31, 2007 - Serious Public Health Concerns Raised Over Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) from Powerlines and Cell Phones. ( pdf ) ( html )

An international working group of scientists, researchers and public health policy professionals (The BioInitiative Working Group) has released its report on electromagnetic fields (EMF) and health. They document serious scientific concerns about current limits regulating how much EMF is allowable from power lines, cell phones, and many other sources of EMF exposure in daily life.

The report concludes the existing standards for public safety are inadequate to protect public health.

Health Protection Agency EMF Discussion Group. Eileen O'Connor, one of SCRAM's founders and a Radiation Research Trustee's addressed the EMF discussion group on 16th October and presented evidence to the group. Eileen was also able to present evidence from Dr George Carlos. The EMF DG is chaired by Sir William Stewart, Chairman for the UK Health Protection Agency (HPA) the HPA are advisors to the UK Government. Agenda Item 7 at the EMF Discussion group was regarding the mast planning approval process – 'Stress Induced Adverse health effects' presented by Alan Meyer of MastSanity. Its conclusions:

"The Department of Health should be advising now the Department of Communities and Local Government that it is no longer possible in planning matters to instruct Local planning authorities that “health effects and concerns” should not be considered when considering Planning Applications as currently, stated in paragraphs 29 and 30 of Planning Policy Guidance Circular PPG8. "

and

" Genuine public fear and concern is a material planning consideration to be taken into account by the decision maker”.
